Cooperation with Competence Center Virtual Engineering has been launched

The start of cooperation with the regionally rooted company Tebodin Peters Engineering (TPE), subsidiary of the Bilfinger group, is based on first discussions in 2014. At that time, the opportunities of the new virtual technologies of the so-called CAVE have been introduced to the management: a room with 5 projection screens of 3x3m² in the new building of KVE/Mannheim. In this CAVE you may enter virtually into an object (e.g. chemical plant) walk around and examine in detail by means of 3D goggles and a tracking system.

The data for CAVE come from a 3D plant design which is, alongside laser scanning, another core competence of Tebodin Peters and thus a good approach to cooperation. Most recently Tebodin Peters has presented this competence in public at the Achema exhibition 2015: www.bilfinger.com/3d ‐anlagenplanung.

„Tebodin Peters uses all current design tools (AutoCAD©, PDS©, Smart 3D©, PDMS©, E3D©) and incorporates its know‐how in the transformation of laser scan data regularly into the planning process of projects. This first step towards Virtual Engineering and the way to the CAVE are therefore the right direction, in order to stay up-to-date“ says Dr. Roderich Hettmann who is responsible for this area at TPE.

Besides the already ongoing cooperation within the “Industriearbeitskreis Laserscanning und Virtual Reality im Anlagenbau“ of the Fraunhofer Institute the compentence center in Mannheim and the company from Ludwigshafen may also benefit now within the area of operational use of Virtual (Reality) Engineering from the networks and support each other’s experience.

„We have provided KVE our 3D‐exhibition‐model of a large chemical plant to test performance and make it available for training and experimental purposes. On one hand KVE can use the model for its clients to demonstrate a big process plant, on the other hand students can be trained on it and can become qualified industry employees,“ adds Martin Karch who has also studied process engineering at the Hochschule Mannheim before he came to Bilfinger in 2009.

Bilfinger and its subsidiary Tebodin Peters pursue in addition to HR activities like grants and participation at the recruiting fair (2014/15) at the Hochschule Mannheim also operational aspects.

„In addition to the interest in graduates of the French-German course of study for mechanical and process engineering we now have the opportunity to extend our range of services to realize our interactive reviews“, explains Sewer Lihs, site manager Paris. „This way, Tebodin Peters maintains its position driving the state-of-the art and extending the advantage towards the competitors of digital plant design in time.“

„You have to have visited the CAVE once to understand the added value of this new kind of communication,“ adds Trägner.
